Our Response to the Tory Conference

I'm sure many of you have seen and heard the speeches from various people, especially Steve Barclay and Rishi Sunak, at the Tory Party Conference last week. There has been a move to change the provision of care for trans+ people within the NHS and an endless amount of hateful and unpleasant speech about 'real men', 'real women' and 'what a real family is' etc.

At this point, you might be feeling overwhelmed, lonely and embattled. As a trans+ person, I want you to know that it's so important that we stick together as a community, support each other and welcome positive attention from allies and supporters. It is only as a united community that we can help each other, share knowledge and resources, and provide a collective voice of advocacy. We must continue to empower each other to live authentically and provide everyone with support where we can, even in these times.

At Beyond Reflections, we do our best as a small charity to give support and attention to all trans+ people. We continue to strive, as we always have done, to provide a practical cocoon of support and assistance to make sure you know we are all here for each and every one of you.

Please reach out to us should you need support - we are always happy to welcome new members and explore additional support options for our existing members.

Jenny, one of the trustees and I have recorded an episode of Transvox to cover our response and thoughts on the whole subject in further detail. You can listen to it here or on most podcast platforms. It does help to talk and to coalesce views and opinions - from these conversations, change can begin.

I wish each and every one of you good mental health and know we are here whatever the political landscape.

Best,

Gillian
